PROGRAM DETAILS
The Sukama expedition is a 40 day, 3 country experience of a lifetime. This is NOT the usual company-run bus safari.
The expedition begins Kenya's capital city Nairobi where volunteeers spending three or more days in the city, orientating themselves to the African lifestyle and culture, before heading to their first destination where they will spend several days scaling the magnificent volcano known as Mt. Kenya. In this time in Nairobi the volunteers will have the opportunity to get to know one another, but get to soak up the African culture and lifestyle.
After their long climb up Mount Kenya, volunteers will see a complete change of scenery, going from Kenya's mountain district, to the dry semi-arid plains of Samburu National Reserve where they will be spending a couple of days viewing the unique wildlife of the area as well helping out around the area. Afterwards the volunteers will then head North to Maralal where they will go on a several day camel safari along the dry desert. Then pressing on to Lake Baringo for crocodile and hippo viewing.
Soon after this, everyone will say "Kwaheri!" to Kenya and "Jambo!" to Uganda where they will be spending several days recouperating in Jinja ready for the second half of their expedition which takes from the Jungles of Entebbe National Reserve to Tanzania's famous Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti Plains. While in Jenji, volunteers will have the oppertunity to go on a 2 day white water rafting trip down the famous Nile River and also for some of more the extreme travellers, go bungee jumping. Whilst in Jinja the volunteers will also be helping out around the community.
After their restful week in Jinja, volunteers will pack up their stuff ready to go and work in the Entebbe chimp sanctuary and then go to the Sese Islands where they will go to a community who has been hit badly by the AIDS virus and try to be of assistance.
Once they have finished with their community work in Uganda, volunteers will arrive by boat in a city of Mwanza, on the border of Tanzania, where they will be staying for a week and helping out in the Hisani Orphanage. As part of this they will be helping out with the community. Afterwards, they will spend a week on safari in Tanzania's famous Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti plains staying in star accomodation and thoroughly enjoying themselves (in the unlikely event that they have not had fun already).
After spending a week viewing Tanzania's Big 5 and more, the volunteers will head to Moshi where they will spend a week assisting in the building of an under-privilaged school in the area. After volunteers will go and climb Africa's highest peak on Mount Kilimanjaro where afterwards, they will head to Tanzania's Capital of Dar es Salam where they will engage in sight-seeing and enjoying the city before they head off to their final destination of Zanzibar.
The trip to Zanzibar is mainly to enable the volunteers a quiet relaxing time to wind themselves down before they head off back to their home countries to tell stories of their African expedition.
